EMPLOYEE FEATURE: MERV LEWIS

Since it became a stand-alone division of Western States in 2016, Merv Lewis has dedicated his career to serving railroad clients as part of our Railroad Solutions team.

With several years of work experience in both the shop and a service truck, Merv accepted a position as a CRS Regional Manager in 2007. Over the next few years, Merv’s position shifted to focus on railroad clients while still assisting with CRS and Heavy Rents. After Railroad Solutions was officially recognized as a separate division, Merv became the Railroad Specialist for rental and sales.

“I spend much of my time traveling, learning the business and meeting our clients where they work,” Merv said, “Our railroad division serves all 28 states that BNSF Railway operates in and the 23 states Union Pacific is in.”

Merv says it’s important for the Railroad Solutions team to attend events like the AREMA and NRC-REMSA annual conventions (whether in person or virtually) to connect with clients nationwide.

Outside of work, Merv enjoys boating, four-wheeling and traveling with his wife of 40 years, Nancy, and their children and grandchildren. He says he owes much of his career to the support of his family and his team.

“My career here has only been possible due to a great deal of support,” he said, “I’m grateful for my job and the opportunities I’ve had that have allowed me to get to where I am today. Our current success is the result of the Railroad team’s hard work and our strong senior leadership.”
