MOVING UP WITHOUT GOING AWAY.

The Terteling Company gained a valuable asset this month, while we lost one of our best. Angela Robinson is moving on in the world and will be missed, but she is not gone. Her new position, VP of HR and Corporate Secretary, uses her skills and talents to benefit all Terteling entities and she couldn’t be more excited.

Currently, benefits for all entities of The Terteling Company total over $100 million. This covers 1,100 active employees (about 3,000 people total when including employees and family members), across 7 states and 8 entities. Angela will work to ensure that these benefits stay competitive and meet the needs of all involved.

Angela will also facilitate Board of Director meetings and will be responsible for company governance and record keeping. She will operate as a support for HR operations and ensure both compensation and leadership development as well as executive succession planning.

This sounds like a lot, and it is. Angela says that the biggest challenge she faces is learning everything. Flinda Terteling (Angela’s predecessor, retiring in June) has served in the position for around 30 years. What may seem common place to her, Angela has to learn. Luckily, she has a 7 month overlap with Flinda where she can learn the ropes and ensure viability and success for all Terteling entities.

The position is not all stress, however. Angela stated that, being a “business person by nature,” she is excited to work in a more business oriented position, though she enjoyed her time in human resources.

Angela is working off our property, but she is still working with us. She indicated that her interactions will be different but she will still be involved in our company. She said, “My position at Western States is the longest job I’ve ever had. It’s been really difficult to leave the all the people. We are like a family and, while every family has its occasional problems, we are very family oriented. It’s what makes us unique and I will miss that interaction. I am not walking away. I still care about everyone here and already miss the opportunity to visit and interact with everyone daily.”
