LOGBOOKS AND SAFER DRIVING.

On December 16-18, our Meridian location hosted Professional Driver Training for heavy haul drivers in our company. The intent was to bring back a focus on safety for our heavy haul team.

The focus of training was on looking forward. Drivers were encouraged to analyze situations prior to entering them, notice hazards and inspect their machines. Attendees discussed Smith’s driver training as they learned about influences on driver and load safety.

The training was intended to function as a reset for both current heavy haul drivers and for the future departmental on-boarding processes. New drivers will now be trained in these same driving precautions, and will also be given equipment and customer service training to help further our relationships with field-based customers.

In addition to safety, training included introduction of our new electronic logbook system. This was piloted with two of our drivers and will soon roll out to the rest of the crew. The system features more rigid time-keep procedures that will help ensure our drivers are getting proper rest between shifts. Huling expressed excitement because he views the new logbooks as a huge benefit to our employees. We seek to provide employees with a life beyond work and these log books are just one more tool to help with that process.
