AN UNUSUAL TOUR.

The Cottages Assisted Living Center came to visit our Meridian branch and we had a blast taking them on tour of our facility. When Charlie Gibson of The Cottages initially called to schedule a tour, Technician Program Manager Cameron Pickett (Meridian) was surprised and hesitant. This was not a normal tour crowd and the safety concerns involved were enormous. He was, however, determined to make it work and (once the safety concerns were resolved) excitedly accepted the tour group, working with Learning and Development Specialist Karen Duff-McCall (Meridian) to lead the group around.

For The Cottages, the idea for this tour came from a resident whose husband had worked for Caterpillar. Once the tour began, however, another resident made it known that he had worked for the original Holt Caterpillar in the 1940s as a technician. This was exciting to us and allowed for great conversation, even catching the interest of residents who were less interested in the beginning.

Participants had the opportunity to tour the facility, talk with President Tom Harris, and see the 1920s and 1930s Caterpillar dozers outside the Meridian office (a particular excitement). Overall, it was a huge success!
